of... Exodus Deuteronomy 2Samuel 1Kings 2Kings 1Chronicles 2Chronicles Ezra Nehemiah Esther Job Isaiah John Acts Romans 2Corinthians Galatians Philippians Colossians 1John 3John Revelation Notes In the Book of Revelation God reveals Jesus, the Messiah, to show what is about to happen. John is the chosen vehicle for this revelation. He has the awesome responsibility of recording Jesus' testimony which is to be made known to him in vision. This study looks at passages in Exodus through to Isaiah that use the word 'record' and its derivatives, to learn more about how John will communicate this vision of Jesus. In Bible times, as today, the role of clerk, historian or recorder was an extremely important job, held by men of high esteem. David appointed Levites as recorders, commemorating the bringing of the Ark to Jerusalem, and God's deeds, His miracles and His covenant. Isaiah prophesied in writing to King Ahaz about the fall of Judah at the hands of the Assyrians, and two honest men witnessed the document, recording its accuracy and authenticity. Wherever the Lord records His name, causing it to be remembered by people, He will come and bless them. And Moses calls Heaven and Earth as recorders or witnesses that he had set before the children of Isreal life and death, urging them to remain faithful to God. Records of events past, present and even future are trusted as being accurate, and consulted to find out the truth. The Persian court records were checked during the time of the rebuilding of Jerusalem to find out the standing of the city, and later to confirm Cyrus' decree about its restoration. Far-reaching decisions were made as a result. And Artexerxes was reminded of Mordecai's loyalty when he asked for the court records to be read to him during a wakeful night. As a result Mordecai was greatly honoured. Job knew that he had an Advocate in Heaven with a record that could clear his name. We also have the same Advocate. His name is Jesus Christ. The record John was appointed to write, on the vision about Jesus from God, must be as faithfully transcribed as those records in Heaven and as accurate and true as those written by the clerks of old. |
